Trek26 Campaign May 2022 – Supporting the Alzheimer’s Society

Every three minutes, somebody in the UK is told they have dementia. But dementia won’t win. Alzheimer’s Society is doing everything they can to find a cure, but they need our help. That’s why we are taking on Trek26London, we will be walking 13 miles to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society on the 28th of May!

The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity. They campaign for change, fund research to find a cure and support people living with dementia today.

The Pentland Medical team will be participating in the Trek 26 and fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Additional to the teams fundraising efforts, Pentland Medical, in association with our partners at Otiom, will make a donation of £20 to the Alzheimer’s Society for each Otiom starter kit we sell in the lead up to the Trek.

Our Goal

Is to raise as much money as possible for the Alzheimer’s Society to ensure that the Alzheimer’s society is able to continue providing support services to those living with dementia and preventing them from dealing with the condition alone.

Otiom

Otiom is the world’s first medical device that communicates via the Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), designed to prevent people with dementia from becoming lost.
The system consists of an Otiom tag that is carried on the person with a tendency to wander. Also supplied with a starter kit is a charger for the tag plus a minimum of two Otiom homebase units. These homebase units are placed within the home or care home and will communicate with the Otiom tag when the person is still in the building to let the system know that they are at home and all is ok.

An unlimited number of family members and/or carers can download the Otiom app for free and can access the functionality of the system from here. From the Otiom app, you can select the most suitable safety level for that individual. The system will only alarm and give locations of the user if they are deemed to be in an unsafe area or if they have been out for a certain amount of time, as defined by the safety setting.

Trek 26

The Pentland Medical team will be joined on Trek 26 by the Otiom team in Denmark. We will all be wearing Otiom tags and will be tracking our walk. Watch this space for updates!
